Anxiety has a positive side

Everyone’s anxious: your boss, your neighbor, your child, maybe you. None of us can escape anxiety’s reach, and it can feel truly terrible. But it doesn’t have to make us miserable. It can be a resource we learn to use to our advantage.

In helping hundreds of people find more balance, I noticed how central anxiety is to almost every issue in life: relationships, parenting, work, health, adjusting to a new normal. I’ve come to believe anxiety isn’t about being mentally ill; it’s about being human. I kept seeing how anxiety focused people on what they cared about most and motivated their solutions, how often it was the gateway to change and growth.

When I went looking for books to recommend alongside therapy, I couldn’t find one that explained how useful anxiety could be, or how to harness it for good. So I wrote Hack Your Anxiety: to show how to reframe the most common misconceptions about anxiety, tap into its positive effects, and why changing your thinking and taking control are the keys, according to longstanding psychological theory and the latest neuroscience.
